 Valley of Fires National Monument is a vast lava flow stretching 44 miles between two mountain ranges in central New Mexico. The lava covers 125 square miles and is 160 feet deep at the center. At least two eruptions sent lava flowing southward. One of these volcanos, Little Black Peak, can still be seen. (See upper right corner in the above photo.)
